Rory Coleman Rory Coleman is a world record breaking ultra marathon runner who has been a huge part of the Tribesports community from the very beginning, he's run 200 ultra marathons and set 9 Guinness World Records - this man knows how to set himself a challenge! That's why, when we heard about his mega challenge to run 28 miles a day for 28 days, we had to find out more:

Rory's challenge started on the 9th September and he won't be stopping until October 6th - we hope he's packed his blister plasters!

As an ex-smoker, Rory is taking on this challenge in order to help support the return of Stoptober - the country’s mass quit smoking attempt.

Stoptober is a nationwide anti-smoking campaign where smokers across Britain (and beyond) are encouraged to quit smoking for 28 days - last year the event helped 160,000 people start their smoke-free life.

28 seems to be the magic number - quitting for 28 days means you are 5 times more likely to stay smoke-free - so Rory will be running the magic number every day from 9th September to the 6th October.

Why is Rory so passionate about helping other's stop smoking?

“This is one of the biggest challenges I have ever taken on, but it was important for me to do something to support Stoptober. Twenty years ago I was a chain-smoking alcoholic who could barely run to the corner shop let alone a mile. To see the difference that stopping smoking has made to my life has been overwhelming and I want more people to take the first initial steps to quitting”.

“I am determined to push myself over the next four weeks to get people thinking about quitting. It takes determination and willpower to stop smoking but if an ex 40-a-day man can keep running for 28 days hopefully it will inspire people to keep off the cigarettes for that long too.”

Not only will Rory be pushing the 4 metre wide Stoptober logo about the country, but the incredible challenge will also mark his 800th marathon! You can support Rory on his Tribesports profile - @ultrarory  and also by spreading the word about the great work that Stoptober is doing this year.

If you want to quit smoking - no matter where in the world you are, take the Stoptober Challenge so the Tribesports community can help you power through those 28 days and beyond! There's also loads of friendly advice available in the No Smoking Tribe which could help you kick the habit for good.
