Meat-free high protein recipes
Many vegan and vegetarian athletes get asked how they manage to get enough protein in their meat-free diets. There are loads of awesome meat-free high protein recipes which we've put together from bloggers around the web and, of course, the Tribesports vegetarian athletes too!
Vegan Chili Recipe - this recipe from Elena who writes for Vega-Licious.com - she recommends using home grown beans rather than tinned so your food is more environmentally friendly as well as being meat-free
Eggplant Parm Remixed - this is a vegetarian friendly Eggplant Parmesan brought to you by Holly J from Fit is the New Black. Many people don't realise that parmesan is not actually a vegetarian food as it contains animal rennet. Holly's recipe uses vegetarian friendly parmesan. Both cheese and aubergine are sources of protein though this meal can also be bulked in the protein stakes by serving with dark green leafy vegetables or lentils.
Spicy White Bean TVP 'Meatballs' - this vegan recipe is from JLGoesVegan and uses Textured Vegetable Protein in these Meat-free meatballs! This recipe yields 10-12 "Meatballs" and uses a mixture of bean and TVP protein to supply a protein-packed meal. JL serves with pasta but you can easily use them in sub-sandwiches, salads and other meals to increase your protein in take.
Quinoa and Pinto Bean Sloppy Joes - this recipe uses quinoa which has been given a lot of time in the spot light for being called a 'Super Food'. There's protein in the quinoa and pinto beans, you can really personalize this dish by spicing it up with chili or cooling it down with cilantro (coriander).
Raw Vegan Cottage Cheese - this recipe is from Vegan Up - it's a cottage cheese substitute which is vegan friendly and has plenty protein because it's made from nuts!
