Tribesports featured User of the week: @NigelK!

Nigel K is an eager and enthusiastic member of Tribesports. You can find him around the site taking on as many challenges as he can and encouraging others to do the same! Having formerly been a jogger, Nigel suffered a knee injury at the age of 40 and completely changed his sporting direction! Now Nigel is a keen Kayaker and Rock Climber and has even been spending some time on his old bike. Check out what he had to say about his life in sports:
Have you always been a sports keeno?
Not at all I didn't start any form of sport until I was 21! I was working as a carer to special needs children when I realised I was horribly unfit and needed to sort myself out.
What was your favourite sport as a kid? Where you in any school teams or clubs?
I hated sport at school, I was an expert at avoiding PE lessons, I think it’s fair to say from the ages of 11 to 18 I avoided nearly all of them or at best refused to participate. PE Lessons left me with a lifelong hatred of team sports.
Outside of sport, what are your other hobbies and interests?
With work and time with my gorgeous children, I don’t have a lot of time spare. In the winter when I can’t get out and climb or kayak I like to hibernate with a good book.
Kayaking and Climbing are quite extreme sports in comparison to jogging! What made you opt for these?
Kayaking is a sport which can suit my mood, it can be either a relaxing paddle up a river enjoying the wildlife, peace and quiet, or it can be mad moments playing in waves. Climbing started as a mad mid-life crisis dare, a climbing course was my 40th birthday present to myself, and I was hooked!
We love to see people like yourself really getting involved in the site and supporting and encouraging others. Tell us, what are you currently up to on the site, and what sports you’re currently enjoying?
The other users on Tribesport are a constant source of inspiration and encouragement, reading the comments and achievement and trying the challenges on the site, keep me motivated.
In terms of sport, now its got a bit cold and wet for the kayaking and climbing. I have started using my old mountain bike, I think it has been used more this year than any other time in the 11years I have had it.
What is your favourite piece/s of sports gear and why?
It would probably have to be my Teksport kayak, which apart from being a conversation piece in my living room, is a fun, flexible boat, which has caused much laughter in the waves this year.
What would you say are your greatest achievements to date?
Thats a hard one to answer, I would have to say going from a overweight 21 year old, binge drinking smoker, with a lousy diet, asthma and later epilepsy, to where I am today.
How has Tribesports helped you?
Its positive attitude and support of the other users that keep me motivated.
What are your favourite challenges/ tribes on the site?
At the moment that’s the yoga challenges which I am slowly practicing and getting to grips with.
Share one piece of advice for our other users?
No matter how big or tough your goals are, with persistent practice they can be achieved.
