Barry Y City to SurfWhich Tribesports Challenge has been the toughest and which are you most proud of?

The 100 day squat Challenge was a real test of commitment and I am currently finishing off the 400 push ups a day for a month, while tough, both have been rewarding when you experience that break through moment. The most rewarding challenges have been the team running challenges, I was very proud of all my team mates on team F5 in the 5 team running challenge.

You're bringing a splash of Aussie summer into our very cold winter - how will you be spending the holidays this year?

Well I do feel for those in the Northern hemisphere fighting the cold, so I hope those of us down under can provide a bit of sunshine in your day.  Plenty of family time splitting between the beach at Phillip Island and here at home which is about 5 hours from the coast, we do have a beautiful river and lake that I can take advantage of and of course the pool at home that always gets a lot of use. Hope everyone here at TS has a happy, healthy Christmas.

Phillip IslandHow do you handle running in the heat?

I love running in the heat, but always take care to avoid the middle of the day, I try and stick to shady river trails or along the beach is always a great option. Important to stay well hydrated and covered in sunscreen and a cap and finish the run with a dip in the river, pool or ocean.

Which has been your favorite race to run?

Difficult to split the 2 marathon I ran this year, The Melbourne Marathon is the largest in the Southern hemisphere and has a fantastic atmosphere, particularly as it finishes at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Great Ocean Road Marathon is a 45km run from Coastal towns of Lorne to Apollo Bay along the Great Ocean Road which covers some of the most spectacular coastal landscape imaginable. I still harbor a dream to run The New York Marathon after being so close and missing out due to the unfortunate circumstances of 2012. Boston is also now on the radar, so lots of thought required.

Boxing's an awesome way to cross train - do you ever get in the ring or is it all pad work?

boxing pad workI love boxing for its science and fitness benefits, agility, core strength and aerobic fitness are key ingredients. I don’t get in the ring unless for the occasional very controlled sparring session. So mostly it is pad work, heavy bag and body weight exercises, I love the gym I go to as there is no hi tech equipment or amenities, so the only reason to go is to train and train hard.

Which exercise do you find the toughest (but kinda like it for being so hard!)?

Everyone’s favorite – Burpees I dread thinking about them, doing them, but I always go back to them.

What's your big goal for 2014 going to be?

My usual goals are a marathon or 2. I got out to a 45k run this year so perhaps a 50k and a triathlon has always been floating about in my mind, so maybe 2014 is the year to make a start.

Which Tribesports user makes your day?

Of course my great friend and training partner Jane H is at the top of the list, she not only inspires me to train better, but also live better. She provides a wonderful example for TS’s, her family, friends and profession.  There are so many that have inspired over a long period including my virtual sister Vaunette C. Tamara A for being such a courageous athlete, Maria G for her joy of training and Maryse D for inspiring me to do more bodyweight training.

I must also mention my Aussie buddies I follow closely, Candida B, Natalie K, Vince S, Michael M, Kel M, and Alan C. Also, the great encourages that have been there over a long period of time, @dash1977, @teresad, @amber126, @brendad, @mgirl, @runningmum, @matteor, @terril, @euniceyeo, @rickp I could go on and on, as this community is made up of so many inspirational people, so apologies to those I have missed.

What's your favorite quote?

I’d rather live a life of ‘Oh wells’ than a life of ‘what ifs’

Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying ‘I will try again tomorrow’

Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be wonderful
