Tribesports User of the Week: Cory W
Run a Half-Marathon has by far been my most proud achievement to date. All the work in losing weight and extending my runs that led up to that moment was by far my biggest athletic challenge and most difficult lifestyle change of my life. I couldn't have done it without the support from my wife and daughter. The team challenges on Tribesports helped me to stay focused along the way and helped push me to get those runs longer on the weekend.
Running has clearly changed your life, what's you next big running event going to be?
Since I've recently started a more vigorous strength training routine with my brother my miles have actually gone down. I just ran a 5k this past weekend with some of my colleagues at work and have a few other short races in mind for later this year. But my goal is to get my brother to do an obstacle course or mud run with me sometime this year. He's not in to running as much as I am so I've got to make it fun for him to commit. Then I may start thinking about training for another half-marathon next year.
We figured you needed a Tribesports Tshirt to complete your 365 miles running in 2013 - can we get a photo when you're done?
You got it! I'll represent the gear at my upcoming races as well!
You have achieved an awesome weight loss transformation, what advice would you give to those who are looking to do the same?
That it's 60% diet, 40% exercise, and should be 100% fun! It was difficult at first and I failed in many attempts, but once I started giving myself reasonable goals, and started keeping a log of what I was eating I noticed that the weight started to come off quicker. As the weight came off I increased the intensity of my workouts and started to add running into the mix and about that time is when I came across this site and the rest is history.
You also blast out some impressive numbers with body weight exercises, which one's your favourite?
Push-Ups/Press-Ups, Tricep Dips, and Pull Ups are all fun, but my all-time favorite would have to be Crunches and Sit-Ups. I focus on certain muscle groups a few days of the week but I can throw some crunches into them mix every day!
Love the Fartlek Runners Tribe - how often do you use interval training when out on a run?
My favorite technique is to pick landmarks while I'm running and then sprint towards them and then slow down back to my normal pace. A little difficult to do on a treadmill but in my favorite park or on a track it's fun to do.
If you could complete a Challenge anywhere in the world where would it be?
When I first saw this question places like Hawaii, Spain, and Australia first came to mind and running on beaches or with bulls sounds fun. But my late Grandfather was from Massachusetts and he used to take me up to New England when I was a kid, so I'd have to say running in the Boston Marathon would be at the top of my list.
Which Tribesports user makes your day?
This could be a long list but I'm going to shorten it down to my first teammates here on Tribesports.
