Gunter hasn't been a member of Tribesports for long, but in the short time he has spent here, he has made a massive difference to a lot of our users.  He is always on hand to give out advice, encourage others or make great new challenges. Watch out for Gunter as he makes his way swiflty towards the top of the Tribesports' leaderboard.

What was your favourite sport as a kid? Where you in any school teams or clubs?

From the age of from 10-13 I played krachtbal (powerball) My dad was the trainer there who has led the first men’s team to victory before. Then from the age of 13-16 my interest went out to Taekwondo and fitness clubs, this was not for competition, but instead, just for fun and exercise and unfortunately I had started smoking at this point as well:-o)

From the age of 19-21 I got really into my fitness, I started of running, then joined fitness clubs, indoor climbing, and anything that gave me that fitness kick! Sport 8 days a week!

Outside of sport, what are your other hobbies and interests?
In one word ‘family’, and studying to become a true network-admin guru! I love inspiring people to try new sports, and think its fascinating how they can go from being completely disinterested to becoming one of the best! If no one shuts me up, I’ll keep on pulling them to the shiny side of the moon!

Many people use the excuse they don’t have time for fitness with work, family e.t.c. How do you fit your sport around your daily routine?
It’s just an essential part of my routine I guess. So I just do other things less. (My wife complains a lot about this!) What I try to do is run as early as possible during the weekend so that I can give my family  all the attention and love they deserve during the rest of the day.

Christmas is coming up! What would you say was your favourite winter sport/s?
Snowboarding for sure. But to be honest I’m not a big fan of the beautiful winter… There are just too little hours of sunshine in a day.

We can see you’re a bit of a running nut! When did you first get the running bug?
When I was 19. Way too late!

When did you run your first marathon?
After I stopped smoking for good, I ran my first official marathon this year and at the age of 35. When I was 24 I entered a 100km hiking race, which I ran for the first 53km and then stopped when I got to my hometown in an unofficial time of 3.45h… I didn’t enter that race to complete it at the time. But I’m sure that one day I will go back and run that whole 100km race.

What are you currently up to on the site, and what sports you’re currently enjoying?
Besides all the running challenges, I’m the biggest fan of Nikos’ mind chatterings! Ha! Seriously though the members here are truly a lovely bunch of passionate semi-professional athletes without attitude, and always ready to help out. That’s what I like best about Tribesports.

Christmas is coming up! What piece of sports gear are you hoping for in your stocking this year?
Anything sports related would be great! Books or a subscription to runners world as well. I just hope my family and I can enjoy true health, happiness, and mental fitness (And financial independence).

What would you say are your greatest achievements/ experiences to date?
Although it was awesome being on top of my game in terms of running when I was younger. My greatest experince was when I cycled (with 3 friends) from where I lived to Saint Tropez in 10 days (1288km). A small tour de France… I had no experience at all, and had never sat on a bike for more than 20km (my ass will lay witness to this) But I loved it, it was the best holiday ever!

How has Tribesports helped you?
Core strength, this was something I never took time for anymore and Tribesports has changed that.

What are your favourite challenges/ tribes on the site? Really? Do I need to spell it out? Ha. R-U-N-N-I-N-G of course!

Share one piece of advice for our other users?
To say it in someone else’s words: ‘knowledge is limited, imagination encircles the world. Never think that you can’t do something. All you need is a bit of encouragement, and I’ll be glad to give you some!’
