Tribesports User of the Week: Irene M
Irene M you are User of the Week!
How does it feel to have a full set of Tribesports medals around your neck?
The day the medals came out it felt like Christmas. Every time I checked back on TS there were more. I found myself checking other people’s profiles to see what they were getting. It was very exciting. I think I had 9 but the end of the first day and getting the ones I was missing required specific tasks; rate equipment, take photos, add training data etc… I worked on getting bronze in those but I couldn’t figure out why I didn’t have any medal for Top Supporter. Finally Hele T cleared it up for my by telling me to log off and log back on again. I did it and there was my last medal.
Now to work on getting the GOLD ones : )
In your bio, you say this all started with a New Year’s resolution, how does it feel to be 7 months in and still loving exercise?
I’m amazed that I’ve stuck with it for this long. I’ve been on and off health kicks my entire adult life, but this time seems different. It helps that I keep challenging myself (thanks TS). It also was a huge help that I have the support of my family and friends. I signed up for, trained and ran my first half marathon with my friend Teresa, my brother Dave and his wife Nicole. Knowing we were all in it together really helped to keep me on track. My brother and his wife actually picked our next half-marathon and told me I better sign up for it. LOL
Which have been your toughest Challenges and which has been your all-time favourite?
My toughest challenge was the Core Workout. I couldn’t do 50 crunches in a row. I had to create a series of beginner challenges all through June just to feel ready to attempt this workout. I can do it now but I still need to work on doing it with less rest breaks-still working on it ; )
My favourite was Girls vs Boys Running – First to 1000km. I’ve never been so excited to run or more motivated to add little extra bits to my run. Plus I love to turn my miles into km it makes the run so much more impressive.
Your Tribe Motivation for weight loss has really helped Tribe members with similar health goals support each other, how much have you found that support from others has helped towards your goals?
I’m so proud of my tribe its 200 members strong and growing. I love when members contribute their questions and success stories. Hearing these things from other people is so motivating. It reminds to stick with it. I was discouraged because I only lost 3 pounds and I wasn’t going to make the lose 5 lbs in June challenge and Nicole H replied “Great job”. I realized she was right. I am slowly continuing to get healthier. That’s more important than hitting the complete button. (Shocking I know, I’m shocked writing it, I do LOVE to hit the COMPLETE button )
If you could give one piece of advice to someone looking to lose weight, what would it be?
That there is no quick fix. Everyone wants to lose 15-30 lbs in X days and that’s not going to happen. Start eating healthy food and start moving every day.
Love the pictures of you and your niece, do you guys get to do much sport together?
That is my niece Jenna. She loves TS as much as me. When I see her now she’ll ask me, “Aunty what challenges are we going to do today”. She beats me at most of them but lunges and squats are a lot more fun when I’m competing against her.
If you had no restraints from finance or geography, what would be your dream Challenge?
I think I would love to go on some sort of guided hiking adventure in Australia. Or maybe the Disney half marathon.
Which piece of kit is your favourite?
I love the peace of mind my hydration belt gives me. It holds my house keys, my ipod and I know if I need it I have water with me at all times.
Which Tribesports user makes your day?
I love to see what’s up with so many members- Barbara L, Lisa M, Karen L, Lorain R, Tony G and Maria S always make me smile. But I love to see how my workout compares to Dwight W. I chased him in the leaderboard when I was trying to get into the top 100 users and I’m always impressed with what he did in a day.
What’s your favourite quote?
“If you run, you are a runner. It doesn’t matter how fast or how far. It doesn’t matter if today is your first day or if you’ve been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run.”- John Bingham
