John B Tribesports Performance WearWhich Tribesports Challenge has been your toughest and which are you most proud of?

My toughest challenge so far has been achieving my first muscle-up. I'm very close and it has been one of my goals for a long time. I'm most proud of earning my black belt in Tae Kwon Do and I have set a goal to earn my 2nd degree black belt by the end of this year. My oldest son became a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and I decided that if I started working on it too it would give us a chance to do something together.

7 day Challenges are clearly a big motivator for you, which week-long Challenges are you working on at the moment?

Right now, I am working on crunches and push-ups. I'm still trying to make these two things an every day habit and the 7 day challenge is helping me get there.

Ever struggled to complete the full 7 days?

I rarely don't complete things and sometimes this makes my wife laugh because we just recently went on a long rode trip with the kids and I had to do some jumping jacks at a rest area, in the hotel weight room, and even in the room on vacation.

What's the story behind this epic photo?

This was one of my board breaks when I tested for my black belt. My instructor wanted me to jump over something higher than the normal pad that they use in order to test my jumping ability and give me a challenge.

Are you training for any upcoming events at the moment?

I've mostly been concentrating on working towards my 2nd degree black belt right now. I am also constantly pushing myself in the gym to achieve a higher personal best in certain lifts and faster times in certain cross-fit workouts.

John B Mud Run!How did your mud run go?

It was a fun experience to test the limits of my physical abilities. Running and doing obstacles is one thing, but when you are caked with about 5 pounds of mud, it makes it a little more challenging and a lot more fun. My wife and I finished within the goal time that we set and enjoyed how motivating it was to have strangers help you and cheer you on along the way.

How's your Tribesports Performance Wear performing?

The quality is really good. It keeps me warm in the chilly weather, but doesn't overheat me when the weather warms up. The material doesn't cling to my skin mid work out so I feel like I'm able to concentrate on what I have to do rather than worrying about how my shirt feels.

What does a typical day's exercise look like for you?

On my training days, I'm usually at the gym around 8:30 a.m. with a warm-up on the treadmill followed by heavy lifting for about an hour and a half. On my non-training days, I either rest or work on one of my 7 day Challenges. 

Which body weight exercise is your favorite?

John B strong man poseI love doing pull-ups. We have a pull-up bar in our house. I have also been known to do pull-ups at work off of heavy pipes and even have been known to do them at the playground or park when I take my children to play.

I also enjoy the many different variations of push-ups and crunches that can be done. This helps to keep it interesting.

Which Tribesports users make your day? 

Bob K because I enjoy some of his insight with Krav Maga and he has inspired me to widen my martial arts training.

Dave W because his lifting is very impressive and it motivates me to push myself harder when I am lifting weights.

Marco C because he has opened my eyes up to some of the cross-fit and body weight exercises and shown me that there is more to working out than just being in a gym.

Eunice Y because she is one of the most encouraging members of Tribesports and motivates just about everyone. 

What's your favorite quote?

"Don't Give Up...Don't Ever Give Up!" by Jim Valvano.  I also saw a motivational quote once that said, "Every journey begins with a single step, but you'll never finish if you don't start."
