Tribesports User of the Week: @matthewl

Posted by Cags R on 19 January 2012 at 3:46 PM

Matthew L has joined the select few Tribesports users and become our User of the Week! He's been super active on the site both by answering questions in discussions and taking on shed loads of Challenges.  As a recent graduate we wanted to know what motivates him to keep fit and what he's planning for the coming year.

How long have you enjoyed sports?

I have enjoyed sports all my life, from a very young age where football was my main sport. Although growing up in school I was in most teams including cricket, rugby, athletics and tennis

What motivated you to start running?

During my first year at university I put a lot of weight on and so decided the easiest thing to do would be to start running. However, as many people do, I caught the running bug and have now been running for about 2 and a half years.

You’ve got loads of half marathon Achievements already logged, how do you feel about a full marathon attempt?

In thoery I have ran a marathon, just a training run, but as you say, not an organised event and I am doing the Venice marathon this year in late October of which I'd hope to get a time of around 3:45 for my first one.

How do you fit exercise into your daily routine - early bird or after work?

Definitely not an early bird, I only live a 10 minute walk form work so its easy to get back and go out for a jog. I also play football twice a week which keeps me active.

What’s your favourite Challenge you’ve taken on Tribesports?

My favourite challenge is one I am undertaking at the moment which is run 10k in less than 40 minutes. As 10k is essentially a quick race they are easy enough to train for without taking huge lumps out of your evenings. With a PB of 41:37 at the moment this Tribesports challenge has motivated me back into trying to beat the 40 minute mark. I shall be doing the Frampton 10k, which is local to me and notoriously flat and great for PB's which is in June.

Lastly what are your upcoming sporting events and what’s your next Challenge going to be?

My next Challenge will be try a new sport every month, well at least attempt to. I have three lessons booked for Gliding, WakeBoarding and Jetskiing and so looking to get involved with more water sports. Also involving some open water swimming as I am to do more triathlons this year as I have only completed one and that was a sprint distance so would be looking to go further.
