Tribesports User of the Week: Monica S

Posted by Monica S under Running on 23 October 2014 at 11:00 AM

Monica Stricker Profile PictureWhich Tribesports Challenge has been your toughest and which are you most proud of?

The toughest challenges are the ones with massive rep goals. The two I am most proud of is my half under 2 hours. It was my first one I was pretty thrilled to discover I beat women much younger than me. 2013 pushups in January of 2013 was tough but what a feeling t complete. As a daughter of a Marine it was pretty  cool to share that with my dad.

What does a typical week of training look like for you?

For me there is not a typical training week. I know it is helpful to schedule your training, but something in my nature resists that. (Maybe I should take that challenge) I work two jobs so on days when I have double shifts I squeeze speed work and tempo work between shifts. On off days I do LSD. I do strength work early A.M. or late P.M.

What was it that inspired you to increase your running and aim for a big event?

Increasing mileage was inspired by my son. He pretty much inspires everything. He encouraged me to work with his coach. I decided my first half about two weeks before it was ran. My friend was deployed and was not able to use her bib. I said he why not. My running buddy said you are ready so I did it.

Running Inspiration

Congrats on the half marathon, will you be running another one soon?

My last half was in July with my son. It was an amazing event. I wish I had more planned, but with my son in cross country the race time conflict. Living in Montana to get anymore in I would have to travel. So unfortunately it looks like the spring.

What would you say is the best advice you've ever had about your running?

The best advice I have ever received is hard to say. My running buddy/training partner has imparted so much wisdom of running on me. I think it boils down to run your own race.

Which body weight exercise is your favorite?

My favorite body weight exercise is probably the push-up. That is a tough one it makes me feel pretty amazing to knock these out.

Any current Challenge on the go you'd like to recommend?

I have so many challenges going at the moment its hard to pick. I would recommend the dial it up relay or any of the others that require partners. It's such a great way to work and bond with members. This is such a positive forum.

Where in the world would you most like to complete a Challenge?

There are a lot of places I would love to run. But the top o the list is Eugene. My son wants to run Eugene for his first full marathon an to finish on the track Prefontiane ran on. It may have to wait since state track will fall on the same weekend, but it will happen. I can't wait to do that with him.

Which piece of Tribesports Performance Wear is your favorite?

Sadly, I have not picked out my gear yet. I can't decide I am pretty excited about getting my tribesport shirt and the zip top when I pay for it in burpees.

Which Tribesports users make your day?

Monica in the Snow@cdempsey615 he is a great teammate and is a constant sort of encouragement, @babygirl93086 we are currently working on some challenges together. She is encouraging and very determined. @kevingibson I think he is the most positive guy on here. He stays connected and always takes the time to give me feedback when I need it. @euniceyeo is always giving me encouragement. @paul3 he encourages my activity, I appreciate his perspective.

What's your favorite quote?

One of my favorite quotes is,
"Keep not standing firmly fixed and rooted, briskly venture briskly roam" - Yellowstone Kelly.
He was a adventurer traveling out west and reinventing himself along the way. He is buried overlooking one of my favorite routes I visit him during my runs up there.
My son is a collector of quotes, he writes them on a wall in his room.
"What do you think the Alps are? They are mere mountains, and no height is insurmountable to men of determination." - Hanniba Barca
I am also reminded of one that is on the shirts my son and his teammates designed that says "go the extra mile, it is never crowded.
