Pronsiasm Frank MWhat has been your toughest Tribesports Challenge and which are you most proud of?

There are many tough Challenges here on TS………. For a long time burpees were my dreaded exercise followed by mountain climbers, but by participating in TS Challenges  I found they did become easier, of course a lot of support was greatly appreciated by various TS people. My toughest Challenge at the moment is doing 20 non-stop pull-ups, I can do 12 easily, when I hit 15 the challenge hits me, but I will prevail. The 30 day Challenges have always challenged me as I forget to post, I like Challenges I can do quickly or that I can participate in as a team… the one I’m in at the moment, Team F5 in the 5 Team Running Match. Go Team F-5.

You've really changed your life in the last 5-6 years, what was the catalyst?

I was a taxi driver until the Christmas of 2008, my lifestyle consisted of sitting in a car for 12 hours or more and eating take away foods, in 2007 I weighed nearly 19st but  in my head I thought I was fit……..until I found I was struggling when I tried to tie my shoe laces and then the big one, 2 drivers who I knew well died from heart attacks and they weren’t much older than me….this woke me up big time, I had to change my lifestyle, which I have now done in the last 5 years, I gave up the taxi and went back to college where I am studying Analytical Chemistry, I am currently going into my 4th and last year.

What advice would you give to others who are just starting their weight loss and fitness journey?

My advice to those starting off would be make a plan but don’t be too rigid, we all fall off the bandwagon and have bad weeks but the secret is not to give up, dust yourself down and make a new plan for tomorrow, you don’t have to be an Olympic athlete, just do your best and keep doing it to the best of your ability and you will see change. The support of the Tribesports community will help keep you motivated and you get to see so many people in the same position as yourself….you are not alone but together we can help motivate one another. Check out the many Tribes here as there are great tips on exercise, nutrition and stretching.

Which is your favourite hill walk in Ireland and which was the biggest challenge for you to summit?

Walking in Ireland - Frank

Wow this is a really tough question, I have 3 areas of Ireland which I visit quite a lot and they would challenge me. The number one has to be Carrauntoohil in the Macguillycuddy Reeks in Kerry; there are the so many tough and very interesting climbing routes here, a walker’s paradise. Second would be the mountains of Connemara in Galway and parts of Mayo in Galway there would be the 12 bens and the maumturks and in Mayo Mweelrea, and last would be the Galtees on the Tipperary, Limerick, Cork borders, my local playground, I love walking and taking photos in all 3 places.

Frank running Limerick marathonWith 3 half marathons under your belt already, are you tempted to go for the full 26.2 miles?

I have another one in October in the Limerick University - I have already run the Great Limerick Run 2010, 2012, and 2013. I find at my age and my love for mountain walking that the half marathon provides the perfect balance for me, it is a great challenge without putting my body under too much stress. I like the challenge of a 2hr plus run and the atmosphere in Limerick has been phenomenal since the inaugural run in 2010.

Where in the world would you most like to complete a Challenge?

So many beautiful and exotic places in the world, for me it would have to be a 7000m peak in the Himalayas.

Which Tribesports user makes your day?

This is the toughest challenge on TS. I don’t know if I should even try as I don’t want to upset anyone, so many people come and encourage me.
