Chin ups are a fantastic exercise for building strength and muscle in the arms and back, as well as being possibly the best abs exercise available to you. When you are looking for a really hard challenge, try to do 20 all in one go without dropping off the bar.

Recent advice

“We did chin-ups way back in elementary school, and ten was always a goal. In my adult life I always did 10 a few times per week, and found that with a bit of motivation it never took all that long to up the reps to 20. Trying for more than that with Marine drill Sergeants observing for complete extension and flexion was a tougher challenge, but the lure of the water bottle or lanyard prize at recruiting events was enough to get me through. Fantastic all around exercise routine.”

finding them easier than pull ups (hands other way around) but couldn't do any type at all when I was younger so pleased with this

I'm still on my push up craze but I have to reevaluate some other exercises and start building. It is always a pleasant surprise when we can do something we couldn't when younger. Instead of the "I remember when I use to be able to do this." feeling.

Lorna P 20 chin-ups in one go Challenge

Lorna P I have a chin-up bar in my kitchen doorway. I am not able to do one. Hopefully this challenge will be the incentive I need.

Vincent R 20 chin-ups in one go Challenge

Contributorgold Vincent R Gave this a go this morning: was tougher than I thought it would be. The last 5 reps were particularly tricky.
Was careful to make sure I completed all 20 with proper form (full ROM, and no kipping), although the challenge doesn't specify how you get them done: in theory you could even use bands or get someone to help you up!
All depends on how challenging you really want this to be...

Contributorsilver Chris B Added this on to my training this morning and managed to pull it off. Have been doing 15 in a set thought 5 more would be nothing. Damn was I wrong. Damn sure feeling those other 5 now!
