Royal Marines Fitness Requirements & Test

Trying to get into the royal marines or looking to put your fitness to the test! This challenge is part of the royal marines fitness testing and it is not easy by far, so if you fail any of the components my advice is practice, practice, practice. Complete this and get that step closer to night-time boat assaults on enemy territory!!!

The basic test is split into two parts and you can complete them on separate days:

Part 1:
3 mile run split:
- Do a 1.5 mile run in under 12.5mins
- 10 min rest
- Do a second 1.5 mile run in under 10.5mins

Part 2:
Stress test:
- Press-ups in 2 mins (min target: 60)
- 2 mins rest
- Sit-ups in 2 mins (min target: 80)
- 2 mins rest
- As many pull-ups as you can do without letting go (min target: 6)

Eoin O The Royal Marines fitness test Challenge

Contributorgold Eoin O Ok, so a 1.5mile run is 2.4km, and to beat 12:30 the pace needs to be 5:12min/k or less, then 10 min break and repeat.

Just noticed that the second one is under 10:30min, so that pace is 4:22min/k...a bit tougher!

Ha ha, did you know his 5k splits were all under 14:30 for the Berlin marathon? Avg pace less than 3min/k...incredible!

Contributorsilver Nick S Done....all I can say is OUCH! That was tough!

Nick...I believe it's both together on the same day, run test first then the physical test. I think you should leave it to complete, you did IT! But when one day you feel fired up enough for another go...try it all at once :-)

Cool, yeah will do....Might give it a go next weekend! Thanks.

Arnaud L The Royal Marines fitness test Challenge

Contributorgold Arnaud L I'll have a try on Sunday XD

encouraged this.

Part 2 - That should be fine but about Part 1, i cannot imagine the pace I need to keep to run 1.5 miles under 10min30

To me, the running part doesn't sound too bad - the second part is the same speed as 5km in 22 min, but for only half the time. It's Part 2 that looks tough - 60 press ups is a lot!
