Contributorsilver Emily S I'm learning just how much food affects my body and mind. Clean eating has done wonders for me. But last week, I ate a bowl of Rice Krispies - not a big deal. Really? Over the next few days, I found myself craving sweets and salt INTENSELY, something I haven't had while eating clean. I ate more cereal. Then my joints started to ache. Then my IBS flared. Then my depression. And the worse my body got, the worse my cravings got, and the worse my eating got (candy, chips, anything I could get my hands on). I'm fighting hard to get back on track but I know it has to be done if I'm going to maintain my health, both physical and mental.

Thanks Huxley! That's almost exactly what I'm doing. Just wanted to clarify one thing: when I mentioned depression, I meant clinical depression. I'm not getting depressed or disappointed in myself (thankfully.) I'm amazed to find just how much food impacts my brain as well as my body. But I'm taking it one day at a time, as you said. And it really helps to know I've got kind people behind me.

Oh my gosh no! You didn't come across as obnoxious at all, and no apologies are needed. I just wanted to clarify about the link between food and my depression. There was a time when I would loathe myself if I ate poorly, but I've learned to be more kind to myself and use my strengths to get me through. I took your comments as supportive and kind. I meant it when I said that it helps to have people like you behind me.
