Heart rate training

Your heart is what powers you and training it in a specific manner can create great results. This tribe is a place to discuss all things heart related, training types, monitors, resting heart rate etc.

This is a graph of my 10k yesterday showing HR (red), pace (yellow) and elevation (grey & exaggerated)*. The peak at the end is me running hard for the line in the last few hundred metres and pretty well hitting my max heart rate. Is it possible to tell anything else from the rest of the graph?

- could I have been running harder?
- should I have run quicker at the beginning (although it was very crowded and my pace was sometimes constrained by people walking three a breast across the road!)

* those dips near the beginning are presumably the HRM strap being a bit dry and losing connection before I got properly sweaty - and not my heart stopping!!

Exactly, that's why I don't see any harm in training for most people. It's so irritating that 'doctors' first say it's harmless even if having heart problems and two days later they suddenly change mind and say exercising does a lot of damage...

The average fitness enthusiast - I see no definition of this mythical beast in this article

Endurance and HIIT are at different ends of the spectrum. one hour and 3-4 hours plus spent at elevated heart rate is also at 2 spectrums.

And if I had c...

How long have you been using it?  I used to use it (the phone app, not the watch) and found that the site kept crashing and giving me inaccurate data so I gave up with it. I now use Garmin watch with a chest strap he...

Phil T Heart rate training Tribe

Contributorgold Phil T Hello heart rate trainers. Once I'm over a slight injury I'm planning on starting the Cool Impossible heart rate training program. Anyone got any experience with this? Any other advice and tips for starting training using heart rate?

The "Polar Wearlink Nike+" is supposed to do the job, but: it's not the cheapest bit of kit in the world it apparently only works (I think) with the Nike+ watch (not with the phone apps...) I've never bee...

Isadore B Just joined. Seems like a very cool site. Unfortunately, the one area I want to track (heart rate) is not being displayed on tribesports. I'm using ismoothrun on iphone. Exporting from app to tribesports went well, that is, besides heart rate data. Is this a known issue? Thanks.

For the M series, they have made changing batteries even simpler :P just crank the lid open with anything thin enough (i.e keys while on trail) and that's it :) same with the hr belt and footpod :)

I use mine as an everyday watch too, no wor...

The design is indeed awesome, I use it as day-to-day watch ;) What I feel it lacks is the option for intervals based on distance... althought I know they improved that a lot on the rest of the series including the later T.

I use the T3C bec...

Suunto T3C with the corresponding HRM and a Garmin FR60 with the HRM... the soft belt is from a Polar as I tossed the Garmin one into the washing maschine with softener and all :P

I find the Suunto a bit annoying, nice design but it doens't seem...

I use a Suunto M5 and it is absolutely great! Mine is a running pack, so I have a Footpod to measure distance and a pc ministick to upload my training.

Besides the accuracy, the best feature is logic beyond beliefe :) I never have to think twice...
