Running up stairs - as simple as that

Contributorgold Graham H okay so there is no stair running training for time or height so let me just say
Ooh boy am i happy, just ran up the 16 floors in a new personal best 1.43, i was beginning to wonder if i would ever beat 1.46 after hitting it several times but never beating it, i think the MMA stuff is helping especially this week when we did a minute or 2 of running up and down the hall with someone holding you back with a belt around your waist, the first few were alright but when the burn kicks in boy do you feel it.

Do you do this one stair at a time or as many as you can get up in one step?

hi Andy - Sorry for the delay, the last several days have been tough with family problems - okay life is better now though, So i do them generally 2 at a time, well lets start from the beginning, i used to do them as fast as i could in 2 stairs at a time but i would manage 4 floors running, 4 floors trotting 4 floors with hands on knees and the last 4 floor was almost every step, then over a few weeks/months it all got better, now i can run up to about 8 or 10th floor walk to 14 then run the last 2 flat out and thats how i get my time, ps i have tried resting only to 12 but the last few flights just kill so you dont gain anything, now i only do it a few times a month as a checkpoint as i do other things its less important

Always run up the stairs at home but the office where I work is a single-storey building so can't do any of that. Will always take the stairs rather than a lift and will generally run up them (unless I'm carrying a lot of shopping).

Contributorgold Graham H first time up the stairs since my left big toenail came off lastnight - did not do any stair work last week trying to rest my feet - feet felt weird on the slack line on Sat, so today 16 floors 1:52 quite happy with that

Contributorgold Graham H ok so it was a hobble rather than a run but i managed the stairs in 2:14 today after doing the London2Brighton 100km run on Sat

20141018233941-gwhearn

last year was hell 94km in 15hrs and my big toes went after getting fixed my legs seized this year time was not important finishing was and i got the medal it is the best marshaled and signposted event its 70% cross country the rest on roads ( back lanes etc ) i would recommend it for the scenery alone and the complete sence of achievement to get to brighton on foot :)

Contributorgold Graham H I would have never have thought i could do it - 3 chocalate coffee beans just as i got off at Liverpool St, walk to office, then into the stairwell, StairRunning - 16 floors = 320 steps, Today Another New Personal Best = 1:46 - but i was seriously out of breath for a min or so - recovery is better - i am seriously considering doing all 20 in the building and seeing if i can do that in 2 mins =/- 10 sec .

Contributorgold Graham H it's kind of funny really, that you can try and train and do all sorts of things, but our emotions drive us harder than we may ever appreciate, last night i found out my favourite aunt, my second mother as it were, had died, while i was still trying to make plans to get up to see her, i put the punch bag on the patio and lumped it for a while,i skipped but i could not focus, sometimes i need to run and screem to exorcise the deamons.. today i came to work with a heavy heart, but those damned stairs were going to fall to me today, i did 1:51 for 16 floors each floor has 2 flights each flight has 10 steps = 320 steps in about 7 seconds faster than i have EVER done it before, with the fire in my heart where the hole left by a loved one was, i floated, glided then powered up those steps, i have 2 weeks until my 100K which i was running in part for my Aunt, if i can keep this focus, this power and pain maybe something positive can come from this, for my heart and mind and those others who we can help through charity and endurance - live fast - live full on - live happy.... Never Forget

Very happy, progress has been great this is only my 5th week of stair running and have knocked 33 Seconds off my original time or a 5th however you want to look at it.

Contributorgold Graham H just done my fastest Friday stair run - 2.01 for 16 floors, thats after Parkour on Thurs and a 1.5km swim last night , so you may say why so different this week, well its the first time in 4 weeks or so i have not come up those stairs with a rucksack with my lunch in it and a few other items that was a few extra Kilos and only my work shirt and my leather bike jacket ( i did have jeans on as well dont panic) Mmm so maybe unhindered by additional kit i could break 1:58 - my best time today ... lets see, happy Friday to you all, hope you have a great day and a super weekend.

Cybi, if I were you I would perhaps start at 10 minutes and gradually increase the timings, you will feel the burn in your legs particularly if you are combining it with exercises such as lunges and squats that are v...
