Contributorgold Eoin O I started part-time study in Feb this year. I'm starting out on a degree in Psychology. Long term I'd like to do a Masters in Sports Psychology. I have already found that it's eating into my exercise time though.

I've only done one actual online course (animal dentistry) and have done plenty of mandated modules online. I'm not a fan. I just end up clicking through since I know I can go back and change answers and such. Now give me an article I find online...

Hope L STUDY BUDDY Tribe

I'm finishing up my online course in psychology, and it has been an interesting experience. Personally, I think it's a hit or miss for some people. On one hand, you get to set your own study pace, which is great for me since I'm working and studyi...

Loretta A STUDY BUDDY Tribe

Contributorgold Loretta A @kevingibson: Kevin, I passed the last module at the weekend and did my final exam today - and passed!!! 3 silly mistakes meant I got a pass rate of 93.22% (79% required). Good enough for me. I am sure you'll ace this :)

20170103105245-kevingibson

@loretta Loretta, congratulations and well done my now fully qualified 'Advanced Sports & Exercise Nutritional Advisor', I hope you are going to get a T shirt printed with that lot on, its too much to say. I got 96.6% pass, 2 wrong, one which I think I was technically right and they were wrong :))) I wont be paying the extra £50 for the posh certificate, we mopped that up quite quickly really my Study Buddy.

Lavinia I STUDY BUDDY Tribe

Contributorgold Lavinia I Studying medicine - the things I've learned years ago, before changing countries + a lot of new information; wrote an exam (the first one) last month and hoping to write two more by the end of the year. Caught a spot in a mock exam that's happening tomorrow... and it's been too long since I talked to or touched a patient, I'll bomb the mock exam as gracefully as I can. :)

I wish you all the best with your studies Lavinia, how did the mock go, I can see I am a few days behind reading this :)

Thank you and no worries at all, Kevin! It really wasn't as bad as I expected, my strong points have actually switched places and I seem to be a good communicator, not such a good examiner (as opposed to university years when I was pretty much the reverse :) ). I'm Bizarro me... :)

@kevingibson, I already tweaked my diet a little but need to make more changes before a sportives. But I am really not sure I can actually eat as much as they say you should. Have you seen the sample meal chart? Can anyone eat all that? In 1 day?

Kevin G encouraged this.

20170103105245-kevingibson

@loretta Loretta I am not sure I can eat the daily BMR let alone anything else. Even if I consider myself as Sedentary, it ends up as 2,500+ cals which is a lot, lot higher than I have ever calculated before. Withregard eating, I can certainly try but probably shouldn't. if you start tom modify your cals etc then the calcs will differ. I am more likely to try and eat better in the right sort of quantities, and try the pre / during / post event eating and drinking in Paris or maybe after, I am off to Sheffield and Manchester this weekend, so time is at a premium at the moment. Have a good weekend and fingers crossed for the swimming all clear, it will be a great achievement but wont count the chickens just yet. Take care x

Finally got around to starting this (nutritional therapy) yesterday, delighted to be learning about nutritional epigenetics :-o On the subject of eating enough.. last year i set myself the challenge of gaining 8Kg of muscle in 28 days, but without gaining any extra body fat.. i went from a starting intake of 3,500-4,000 kcals/day up to 7,000 on recovery days and over 8,000 on training days.. after about 10 days i was starting to hate food ;-) i went off the rails at the end of the week, missed a training session and was boozing for 2 days for friends birthdays, but still managed to pack on 5kg of muscle with only 100g increase in body fat :-D

Samantha W STUDY BUDDY Tribe

Contributorgold Samantha W I'm doing an online photography course while Kevin is doing the sports nutrition. It's a similar thing with a number of sections, each with a test you have to pass before being able to move to the next part. There are also some photo assignments so I'll post some pictures on here and let you all see how it's going!

Contributorgold Kevin G @loretta Loretta, I completed Module 8 tonight, a consolidation of a lot covered before, but here's your chance for stardom. I got a phone call and accidentally clicked 'complete' without answering the last 2 questions LOL so 31/33 for me 91%. 9 and 10 are all about ethics and setting up a business without individual tests, the next one is the exam.
Taking a greak now while I do Paris, have fun, look forard to hearing how you get on. Have fun :))

@kevingibson: hello Study Buddy: Hydration module is in the bag, got 1 wrong out of 53, the usual, didn't read the question properly. Never mind = 98% pass rate. Need to see about the next module as I need to finish a photobook first. Something that is long overdue. Not looking forward to ethics and setting up a business, as I am not interested in it.

20170103105245-kevingibson

@loretta Loretta, well done on Hydration it had more in it than I expected. Module 8 is more like a consolidation of everything else to be honest, not that much new in there. Don't worry about the ethics and business set up, they are so high level, they might as well just be the headings, and there is no quiz on them, the quiz at the end of mod 8 is the end exam, well that's what I understand and where I have stopped. Have fun, my Paris HM is 8th March so you have acres of time :))

Contributorgold Kevin G @loretta Loretta, I have done Module 7 today and passed with glowing colours. I thought this would be quick and I knew a fair amount, it did seem to go on a bit and repeat itself. Not sure if you saw elsewhere, Yesterday, I accepted a place in the 2015 Paris HM for GETKiDSGOING charity in 3 weeks time, so am going to blitz the last chapter and put the final test on hold while I get some proper training in. Thought it would be ok as I ran it last year, but the buggers have reversed and amended the route.
Good luck with your Module and medals, look forward to hearing about both.
Happy Valentines and have a nice weekend x

20171015150955-loretta

@kevingibson: a HM in Paris, how nice. I saw this morning that Amanda sponsored you and I will have a look myself later on. Well done on completing Module 7, I didn't expect anything less than full pass rate from you. Maybe, just maybe I sit down this weekend to do the module. I will miss your study support = kick up the backside as you are going to concentrate on your training instead now. I just hope I can keep the momentum up. Have a great weekend :)

20170103105245-kevingibson

@loretta Loretta, oh don't worry I can multi task, study, train and kick your backside. module 8 is going down on Monday and as the Paris route has changed I am running for charity and fun not a time now, so taking the pressure off myself. my mental age qualifies me for Valentines Day and I am sure Andrew will enjoy the rugby, I will be watching on TV. Thank you in advance for sponsoring me and have a great weekend yourself

Sack the printer I say :)) top job, as ever. Next week and next module is Hydration, will report in when looked at and done. Hope your week is going quick, take care

Contributorgold Kevin G @loretta Loretta, Module 6 duly completed and another 100% pass , sorry, another interesting module on Protei and weight loss / gain / management strategies. 35 questions in the quiz was a shock, but not too bad.
Hope the PC has been housekept and tidied up, hope you are recovering well and good luck when you study Module 6 x

Contributorgold Loretta A Pre, during and post exercise nutrition is so important but something I don't think I do right so I was pleased to find this article to shed some light on how athletes fuel. Hopefully someone else finds this interesting as well

Contributorgold Kevin G So, my dear friend Loretta recommended the online 'Sports and Exercise Nutritional Advisor Course' to me and I found a bargain Groupon offer at Christmas and bought it. Paid more for the printed version, but as all in one book, heavy to carry about which was the intention.
10 modules incorporating 32 units, with a test at the end of each module and an exam at the end.
A qualified sports and exercise nutritionist awaits, but doing purely for my own edification and enjoyment.
I have made space and time for study by updating TS every other day rather than daily, and me and my study buddy Loretta and I are doing a module a week and are half way 5 out of 10 modules through, encouraging each other and generally having fun with this :)))
