At 32 years old I was not sure that all of my aspirations have been achieved. In fact, I had turned in to the ‘average adult’, I have a supportive and loving girlfriend, I have a wonderful 5 year old daughter and an office job that occupies a lot of my time. So naturally, I didn't have time to make changes, when would I find the time or the energy to get to the gym, to get fit and be a healthier person? Let’s face it that was all crap, just an excuse.

In February 2011 I decided that it was time to make a change in my life, maybe one of the most import changes. I am 6.0" and I weighed over 18.6 stone. I didn't think I was overweight but if I am truly honest I was deluding myself, I didn't want to be honest and I chose not to see my true reflection.

I was unfit and very unhealthy. I no longer enjoyed my life style and it was time to make a change, it was time to get fit get health. I don’t think the decision would have been made if I was left to my own devises, but Zara (my girlfriend) and I both decided we should make the change together. Making the change together helped us both stay focused, driven and we have been a good support network for each other.

Since I have been 16 years old I have had moments of training, some lasting longer than others, but all have ended in failure. However sport has always been something I have enjoyed.

I wanted to be able to enjoy my life and so I set myself goals and challenges, as I get fitter, as I lose weight and become stronger my goals have changed, my challenges are new, I have tried to make my challenges specific and look at my short, medium and long term goals.

What I have learnt is that being a success in the gym, in fitness is not all that different to being a success in another walk of life. You have to work hard, practice and learn from your mistakes.
