The "Bad Back" Tribe

Most of us go through our lives with some form of back issue. I have broken mine and have a bulging disk. But I have not let it stop me from doing the things I love - but it does require a strict regimen to ensure my back can do the things I put it through.
This Tribe is about sharing what you have done to make sure your back is strong and allows you to do the things you want to do.
Please share with others your routine to make sure your back is in good shape.

Rochelle, the best exercises for the back are core exercises and lots of them - interesting that dragon flags is aggrivating it. That would indicate quite a bit of weakness in that region. Have you had it checked to see if the sacrum is in alignmn...

Thanks to Mark for recommending this tribe to me.  I damaged my coccyx when I came off a horse during a jump back in 2009.  However, I don't think this is an issue especially during my recent activity of trying to train to do dragon flags.  My bac...

Thanks for sharing this one too! I have one heck of a time with the B vitamins. Constant battle to get enough. My body does not metabolize it properly and I don't eat much meat. It takes mega doses to keep my numbers up and they are still on the v...

Thanks for sharing Mark. Bird Dog is my favorite on this list. I know some would disagree with doing this when you have back issues, but my back loves extensions on the roman chair. I don't hyperextend though.

These are four simple exercises to help your back. Hope they help.

Hip Bridge

How to do it: Lie on your back, feet flat and hip-width apart, arms relaxed, and knees bent. Squeeze your buttocks as you lift your hips, creating a straight line from...

Eating a balanced diet that includes the right amount and variety of vitamins and nutrients will reduce back problems by nourishing the bones, muscles, discs and other structures in the spine. Particular importance is given to calcium, which can b...

Beth sorry to hear of your back issues. I blew my disk at L5/S1 three years ago when I went head first into a sand back while surfing. You think I would have blown one of my neck discs. I had severe pain and was couched for about three months...

Contributorgold Kristin B I had to join. I have back issues that I am constantly struggling with. Bad disk and sciatica that gets triggered. One thing I have realized I need to avoid...V-ups. The challenge week left me in spasm. Look forward to hearing what everyone does:)

@markgell, I sincerely apologize for missing your response. Found a gmail email that had around 50 responses I missed last week. lol. Thanks for sharing:) It's inspiring as I have been silently struggling with it lately. Seems to come in phases and yesterday it was simple gardening that triggered some inflammation. I need to check that book out. I am a firm believer in the power of hydration on the body. I occasionally get what I call shin splints throughout the body and the thing I can link to it is not enough water. Sugar too. The boyfriend and I can often times track our joint pain to too much sugar. He has facet syndrome and struggles too. I also have an inversion table. My bf bought it for me for my birthday last year. They are wonderful unless my back is inflamed. That will bring tear to my eyes on those days. I am working on experimenting with stretching. It is tricky since I also suffer from hypermobility in many of my joints. Thanks for sharing all of your great insights on TS. I appreciate and enjoy it:)))

Its an absolute pleasure - bad backs can be a complete drain or a motivator to get moving and stay moving.

I was shocked that after my long trail day that mine is not too bad. Saturday it was a little aggravated, but all good now. It is a reminder to work on it though:)
